About us
The Curious Opera Company is a female-led company making bold, Queer, political opera aiming to engage new and existing audiences. It was founded by Emily Noon in 2021, following her decision to create a completely reversed arrangement of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte featuring an updated libretto. The company is focused on changing the landscape of traditional opera and making a conscious effort to tackle the issues such as sexism and racism.
We are focused on producing works that play within the framework of traditional opera, using transposition and role reversal to break down barriers for all performers. This is a way of preserving beautiful music whilst keeping it relevant. At the heart of the Curious Opera Company’s philosophy lie the ideals of inclusivity and innovation.

Artistic Director
Mezzo-Soprano Emily Noon graduated with distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2021. Inspired from an early age to pursue a career in opera, she has built her performance portfolio working with groups such as the Jervaulx Consort, Scherzo Opera, Hampstead Garden Opera and Opera Asteria. Starting the Curious Opera Company in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Emily advanced to producing her own productions in Manchester before returning to her hometown of London. She is passionate about the arts and has a great love for reading, art and the cinema.
